The production of wood pellet begins by raw material procurement.
In most cases the raw material is industrial by-product or waste or from sawdust and/or de-skinned tree branches/blocks. The size of raw material required for producing the pellets is smaller than 5 mm. If the biomass is large, the material is first run though a chipper and then run through a hammer mill/crusher or similar device to reduce the wood particles into the required size. Smaller and softer biomass can be fed directly into the hammer mill without first being chipped.
